PROGRAMS & COMMITTEES

From it's founding, the Sorority's criteria for membership required academic excellence and the documented and creditable involvement of each individual as a volunteer in public service.

Delta Sigma Theta is a sisterhood of more than 250,000, predominately African American college educated women. Currently, there are more than 915 chapters in the United States and abroad, to include Germany, London, the Bahamas, Republic of Panama, Japan, Korea and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

LITTLE MISS CRIMSON & CREAM

The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is elated to have sponsored the " Little Miss Crimson & Cream" Pageant since 1992. This pageant has been one our major fund raising events. Founding documents indicate that those who created and organized this project were interested in enhancing the cultural, social and educational experiences in the lives of young girls, ages 5 through 12 years old. In addition, through this endeavor, we have been able to generate proceeds that allow the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter to provide college scholarships to deserving African American students in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.

The components of this remarkable undertaking have featured an array of educational and fun activities for the pageant participants. Included in these activities are educational field trips throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area, and throughout Prince William County. Additionally, our contestants were feted to a Mother-Daughter Brunch and an etiquette workshop with the focus areas being "good manners and stage presentation."

Our sorority's commitment to public service is communicated to the contestants by involving them in a community service project.

SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE

Political Awareness and Involvement

In 1913, our Founders formed Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated (DST) with hopes that the organization would become a viable force in the movement for social change. DST first public act, participation in the Women's Suffrage March, demonstrated a commitment to social action. Since that great day, Delta members have been actively involved in almost every social movement witnessed in the United States. DST has even carried the call for justice beyond the borders of the United States; chapters have been charted in six countries abroad.

The members of Prince William County Alumnae Chapter are committed to upholding the legacy of our beloved Founders by developing and implementing action plans to address social issues within Prince William County. Such programs have included voter registration, census participation drive, youth summit and Virginia Delegate forums.

Mission Statement

The mission of Social Action in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is to serve as a vehicle for advocacy, effecting social change and public policy.
